It’s a brave new digital world and our neighbors to the North have quietly become powerhouses in the world of production, both original content and for the biggest budget feature films. For a brief moment, Atlanta was the number one location in the world for feature films. Canda quickly surpassed us, and if that were not enough, the Toronto Raptors have a commanding 3-1lead against the Golden State Warriors!
It’s a level playing field, every city, every country can offer incentives to entice big business. To maintain our position in the entertainment industry, we have to start fighting back.
By the year 2022, video will make up 82% of internet traffic. Digital and social channels have taken over and Advertising spends are shifting to meet their customers where they are most. Two things must happen.
1. Atlanta creatives must come together and create content
2. Atlanta companies must pitch and sell content
Successful original content happens on two levels. First, it happens on a social level. It comes from everyday citizens who create content in their homes, in public areas, then posts on social media. What creatives in LA, Canada and New York have figured out is that when social influencers come together and create content with each other, they are able to reach 3 times, 4 times the audience than when they create on their own. Influencers in Atlanta must come together to create and release content.
This will shift attention on Ad Spends to Atlanta or at the very least catch the attention from Advertising Agencies for more creative content to happen in a city with momentum and a tax incentive.
The second level of video production happens on the professional level. As a video production destination, Atlanta and surrounding cities are still a hot destination, but as creatives of original content, we have a lot of work to do. Just as social influencers need to come together to form creative partnerships, so should local writers, producers, directors and production companies.
